New hair growth using your own PRP

PRP Hair Restoration
Your blood consists mainly of liquid plasma, with smaller amounts of solid components like red cells, white cells and platelets. Platelets help to clot blood, and also contain important healing proteins. Our physician creates platelet rich plasma by drawing a small amount of a patient’s blood, and then spinning it in a centrifuge to separate platelets from the other components. This concentrated plasma can then be injected into the scalp to achieve new hair growth in thinning areas. Your own PRP is reintroduced to your skin, so there is no risk of allergic reaction or rejection.
How to Prepare for PRP Hair Injections
Avoid sun exposure on the area that’s going to be treated to help make treatment safe and effective.
Tell your provider about any medications you’re taking or topical medications you’re applying so that they can ensure there won’t be any adverse reactions.
Avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications at least one week before your treatment as these can heighten the likelihood of bruising.
Hydrate well on the morning of your treatment.
PRP Hair Restoration Steps
Consultation - Dr. Alkadri will discuss your goals, determine the best treatment options, and give you an idea of what to expect from your treatment.
Blood draw - A small amount of blood is drawn from your vein.
Spinning - The blood is placed in a centrifuge, where it spins so that the platelets are separated from the red blood cells.
Numbing - The scalp is topically numbed with an anesthetic cream to help you feel comfortable during application.
Injection - Dr. Alkadri injects the PRP into your scalp in select areas that will benefit from renewed cell growth. This stimulates those weak hair follicles.
Further treatments - Most patients benefit from a series of PRP injections performed over several months, to impact the follicles during different growth cycles. Dr. Alkadri will tell you more about what he recommends for your needs at your initial consultation.
Results - You will begin seeing new hair growth within 3-4 weeks, and full results will take hold around six months.

PRP Hair Restoration FAQ
Am I a candidate for PRP hair restoration?
Dr. Alkadri will need to examine your scalp and discuss your hair loss in order to provide a definitive answer. Ideal candidates are people with male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness who still have some hair in the thinning area. Catching the thinning early and intervening with PRP injections will yield the best results.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of total sessions will depend on your hair loss and your treatment goals. Talk to Dr. Alkadri at your consultation about what he anticipates being ideal.
Is there downtime after the procedure?
Unlike many hair restoration procedures, there is no downtime following treatment. The most common side effect is mild redness, tenderness and/or scalp irritation, all of which should fade shortly after the procedure.
