Botox and Dysport

Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators – this means that they interfere with communication between your nerves and muscles. This prevents your muscles from contracting so that your skin remains smooth. The key with neuromodulators is precise, conservative injection. This allows you to gain a smooth forehead without losing your natural expression.

Our cosmetic injector, Dr. Amjad Alkadri, is an expert in anti-aging and has been providing his patients with predictable, natural-looking results for many years.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

At your consultation, Dr. Alkadri will provide any precautions or notes for you to follow leading up to your injection. These may include –

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment

  • Don’t take painkillers in advance, as these can make you more likely to bruise

  • Tell your provider any medications you’re taking

Botox Treatment Steps

  • Consultation – Your doctor will discuss your anti-aging goals and consider which injection sites and medication (Botox vs. Dysport) will be ideal. You’ll also be able to ask any questions you have about treatment and receive detailed answers before moving forward.

  • Facial marking – Your provider will examine your face and have you clench your muscles in the treatment area (raise your forehead or furrow your brow). They will then mark the injection sites.

  • Injections – Your doctor will inject the appropriate muscles with a very thin needle. These injections will feel like nothing more than a small pinch.

  • You’ll receive a certain number of injections depending on the treatment area and the severity of the wrinkle. Brow furrows typically require the most injections (compared to more delicate lines like crow’s feet).

  • The full procedure typically takes less than 15 minutes.

Botox FAQ

What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are the same medication (botulinum toxin), but Dysport is more diffuse than Botox. This means that it tends to spread a little farther in the treatment area. Although more Dysport units are required, Botox and Dysport are priced so that you’ll pay the same amount regardless of which you receive. Dr. Alkadri will determine which is ideal for your needs at your consultation.

How long will results last?

Botox results typically last between 3-6 months. The full duration will depend on the treatment area, number of units received, and how active those facial muscles are. After you have Botox or Dysport for the first time, you’ll get a better idea of how long they impact your skin and be able to set up a regular treatment schedule.

Will Botox injections hurt?

Botox and Dysport are not typically painful. Most patients only experience a small pinch as the needle is injected; some don’t experience any discomfort at all. We can also apply a topical numbing agent to help reduce the minor sensation from the needle.

Will I be able to move the rest of my face normally?

Effective injections only target the muscles responsible for lines, not the ones that provide your daily range of facial expression. A talented provider will be able to inject specific muscles and leave others untouched, reducing lines without limiting expression.

How often should I get Botox?

Your Botox schedule will be unique to your skin, your age and your preferences – how quickly results wear off, and how little time you’d like between injection sessions. The average regular Botox patient receives injections every four months.
